On Saturday April 17th, 2010 James Heimler was quoted as "a longtime proponent of green building" in a Home+Garden article within the Daily News. The article, titled "Eco-Friendly House Puts Green Ideas to Work," by Sandra Barrera, is about the greening of different homes:
"Jim Heimler, a longtime proponent of green building whose woodsy 1946 home in Woodland Hills is on the cutting edge of green retrofitting, has seen such interest step up in recent years.
'A lot of people want to get off the grid,' says the San Fernando Valley AIA architect and LEED- (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional who works out of Tarzana. 'There's one group of people I'm about to do a whole bunch of new homes for and they're planning to use shipping containers and everything and anything that can be low-tech and as energy efficient as possible.
'We did a master room addition with solar panels on the roof and everything hooked up back to their laptop so they can watch how their energy is being used and control it,' Heimler says, adding that the homeowner is also plugged into the weather vane. 'Different people do different things in terms of energy efficiencies or just greener materials for what they feel is important for their way of living.' "
