In the early 80's Jim Heimler learned community service from the bottom up, working in the Ocean Park Community Organization near Santa Monica. His work helping create neighborhood parks and starting public Recycling Centers in Los Angeles County set the tone for his future. Today, his commitment to community issues continues to be the driving force behind much of his professional and personal life.Jim Heimler

Since the late 70's, Jim has been very active in the creation and preservation of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Park, focused on the design/maintenance of public hiking, bicycling and equestrian facilities. Some of these trails, running from Woodland Hills to the Pacific Ocean, service thousands of local and visiting patrons each year and providing grants to the local elementary schools for environmental educational programs.

At present, Jim works with LINC Housing as a Board Member concerned with affordable senior housing.

Jim is also usually hard at work with a Homeowners Association regarding a specific project or planning issue. Jim has also designed buildings and negotiated agreements for developers, government agencies and of course, private homeowners.

As a regular consultant on proposed and active Zoning and City Planning Ordinances in Los Angeles, Jim is invited to supply written and oral comments.

Jim has been recently spotted working on the Woodland Hills section of the Streetscape Committee for the Ventura Blvd. Specific Plan.

Jim contributed to crafting the language of the Bike Path proposal of the MTA Right-of-Way Beautification Project.
